Repoussé 800 Silver Porcelain Jesus & John the Baptist Plaque Austro Hungarian Memento Brooch
Fabulous & unique antique Austro Hungarian, believed to be, a c1900 memento brooch. Pressed 800 silver metal brooch with inserts that were probably once gilded. Center features a hand painted porcelain plaque showing the scene of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus. The back pin location acts as a cover as well and comes out with sufficient room for a memento. It is unknown if the pin was a later addition. The center top point of the 6 point piece has what appear a broken/missing portion on the back which could have been a pendant loop for wearing as a necklace, or an eyelet for hanging on a wall. The back bares the correct mark for an Austro Hungarian piece for the time period of 1872 to 1922 using the touch mark for 800 silver and the town code for Vienna. The back is engraved Anton, Born 14th March 1874. Hallmarked with what is believed to be a makers mark KA.
The applied round accents were once gold washed, which is pretty much gone now, though a relatively easy fix. Needs a professional polish. Some minor losses to the plaque.
