Just an exquisite piece and is a hand colored photogravure. The piece is untitled, and the original was completed by a true master, Lionel Péraux. This was done during the French Belle Époque period. The colors are very muted leaving the blue's to pop off the paper.
The size is 6" x 4" and the frame is OD is 12 1/2" x 10 3/4". I believe the frame is period. Circa 1910 or so. Subjects appear to be two domestic servants reading a letter, wearing clothing that would place them in Zuid Beveland, Zeeland, which is in the southeast of the Netherlands. Scholars who have studied the topic of domestic service in Zeeland Netherlands believe that this occupation during the 1820 to 1935 time period offered women a greater chance at marriage.
