A circa 1893 elgin pocket watch grade 117. 7J size 6s non working pocket watch. I believe the dial will clean up nicely - it does present well, but does have a small hairline crack running between the II & III. Minute, hour and second hands look to be in good condition. Works on the back look relatively clean, but are wound up tight and non-running. It wants to run, but I think the works need properly cleaned and oiled before they will properly run out.
Case is a super nice fancy Keystone case marked with the scales for gold filled. Inner case as pictured marked Jas. Boss 10K. Based upon the reference material I have, these are gold filled . Crystal sounds like it is glass, (but could be a replacement plastic lens as I did not test it) and will need to be reset into the case band as it has come out. Case is engraved IDA on the front. X-Ray analysis is reading consistently 9 to 9.5 Karat Gold throughout the case, bale, crown & hinge area to include the inside covers and the engraved area, so very little wear on the base gold plating. Back outer cover is a bit copper in color where there was pit in the metal I had my gold buyer drop some acid it it - didn't react so a nice solid layer of gold.
Back cover for the works is a little askew - not quite sitting correctly - but does open and close as it should. Front cover pops open nicely and closes as is should. Hinge area looks to show some brass at the solder points at 10x. Light polishing scratches to the inside and outside case. Bale is a bit askew. Some deeper scratching on the back case ring & inside back cover where you open it. Again - THIS IS A GOLD FILLED POCKET WATCH CASE! THIS IS SOLD AS IS NO RETURN SO IF YOU BUY FOR THE WRONG REASON, YOU OWN IT!
