Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra 1900 Program Book Louise B Voigt Soloist
A rare piece of Indianapolis history is found in this 1900-1901 season program/pamphlet book. The 5th season of the existence of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra which was founded in 1896 by Karl Schneider. Mr Schneider was the conductor for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and recognized at the time as the leading force in the higher musical life of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra was one of the few successful organizations of its kind in this country at this time.
I always find it interesting when a piece such as this does not reflect the information promoted by the community. Looks like 1930 is as far back as the Present "Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra" goes with its founding attributed to another man. It really is funny how history gets lost and buried as 1930 might reflect the "re-founding" of the Orchestra but clearly, no longer represents its original founding.
I believe this program was used to announce the first concert of the fifth season which were to be held at the English Opera House with the first Event featuring soloist singer Louise B Voigt on November 20th 1900.
This particular piece was stored in a book from the turn of the century and used as a place marker. Notable edge wear and some tanning on the outer edge reflects its use.
The program/advertising pamphlet measures 7" H x 5" W.
