Item Description

This vintage American Defense Service Medal honors service between 1939 and 1941. The medal features a prominent depiction of Columbia, the personification of America, standing on an oak branch with a shield and sword. The reverse of the medal reads: "FOR SERVICE DURING THE LIMITED EMERGENCY PROCLAIMED BY THE PRESIDENT ON SEPTEMBER 8, 1939 OR DURING THE UNLIMITED EMERGENCY PROCLAIMED BY THE PRESIDENT ON MAY 27, 1941."
